The focus of the marketing strategy lies in imparting information about the artisan and production process. This adds greatly to the value of the products sold. Meticulous attention is also paid to the selection of products and their display and packaging. In the past year the Delhi team worked innovatively with artisans on and materials such as wood, marble inlay, natural dyes and ‘sanjhi’ craft to develop new products which were presented through exhibitions in the showroom. Invitations and notices posted on the internet kept customers coming into the shop and promoted sales.
Kamala Kolkata is located in ICCR’s Tagore Centre and has capitalized on the excellent location. The Kolkata team had worked on a programme of seasonal exhibitions held in the shop. Among the merchandise that sold well were Etikopakka turned woodware, terracotta and coconut shell jewellery from Pondicherry and ceramics from Shantiniketan.
