Organised by the Crafts Council of India the Textile Show “Sarees & Accessories” brings the best of the country’s sari and textile heritage – pristine to trendy and contemporary – through an evocative ‘Silk and Cotton Route’ which passes through the great sari weaving centres of India. The fabled weaves of Benaras, Paithani, Uppada, Maheshwari, Kanchipuram, Chanderi, Kota and Kutch come together, woven by masterweavers and revivalists, conceptualised by eminent designers, given a touch of drama by edgy textile innovations and value added by the great textile art embellishments and techniques of hand block prints, tie and dye and shibori, natural dyes and indigo and the magic of embroidery.

Each sari tells its own unique story at the Textile Show. Like designer and revivalist Ghanshyam Sarode’s minimalist Paithani saris which offer a feast of dazzling colours and intricate designs created in zari. Or his reintroduction of the Jamdani technique in Uppada saris. Shilpi’s mesmeric Sanganer block prints bring old Mughal motifs to life in a fascinating range of saris. Palash showcases a wealth of Bomkai ikats and Red Earth celebrates Paithanis, Kotas, ikats and contemporary designer saris. ‘Aavaran’ is about natural dyed saris, dupattas and kurtas. On view are Kanjeevaram cottons and silks, Mashroo and Gajji silk saris, delicate khadi saris as well as organic textiles and outfits, Leheriyas, Bandhini, Tussar, Maheshwari and Chanderi saris and more. All this and more awaits you at CCI’s ‘Textile Show’ on 7 & 8 April 2017 at Hotel My Fortune, Cathedral Road, Chennai from 10 am – 7 pm.
